Anu P. tells the story of a girl who loses her mother at an early age and is sustained by imagination and a fierce creative drive. The working-class girl from a factory town falls in love with clay and dreams of building an empire around it. A man enters her life, inspired by the same dreams, and together they have two small children. The family settles in Posio, and Lapland begins to turn their dreams into reality. But work, ambition, and a sense of being exceptional draw the woman out into the world—while her family is left with longing.

Through Anu P's story, we also follow the narrative of the post-war generation: social mobility, the transformation of gender roles, the idealism of the 1970s, the yuppie culture of the 1980s, and the recession of the 1990s. The protagonist is pulled in many directions—between ambition and humility, working-class roots and corporate leadership, artistic calling and commercial instinct, the solitude of Lapland and a global identity. Her greatest conflict is the tension between maternal instinct and ambition. The greatest achievement is love.

The character Anu P. is based on the ceramic artist and entrepreneur Anu Pentik.

"Tarina kasvaa yhden ihmisen ja firman vaiheista mahtavaksi satiiriksi, joka kritisoi jatkuvan kasvun ihannetta. Kolmituntinen kokonaisuus on aseistariisuvan mukaansatempaava. Hulvattoman eepoksen tahtoo mennä katsomaan uudelleenkin."
